In this post I'll show you how I fixed my rug mistake with a new rug, for FREE!
In my recent Master bedroom makeover, I purchased a beautiful new leopard print rug to go with the new headboard and pillows. Unfortunately, when it was time to style and put it all together, it didn't look right. Something was off, and I decided the rug had to go.
Sadly, I was unable to return the rug and certainly couldn't just immediately go out and buy a new rug. Thankfully I remembered my friend Brooke over at Start at Home had featured her painted drop cloth rug and I decided to give that a try! Turns out, I love it even more!
I started with a basic painters drop cloth I had purchased eons ago but had yet to use. I laid it out and iron out the folded creases. Then brought out the painters tape and taped off my designs. I chose a classic wide stripe. Easy enough!
I would recommend measuring your stripes, however, I eyeballed it. This pic makes it look like the first stripe is much narrower than the last, but it's an optical illusion, I promise. I went back after ward and measured just for fun and they were all within 1/2 inch of each other in width. Once the tape is in place, simply paint every other stripe. I chose to leave half of them the natural drop cloth color and I love the way it turned out! It is by no means perfect, but that goes with the style of my room. It's a mixture of old and new and the rug ties that all together in a beautiful, yet simple way.
The color I chose for my stripe was a color I have used in a large portion of my downstairs, on the walls. It's called Perfect Taupe and it's by Behr in an eggshell finish. This color really is "perfect"! It pulls the taupe color from the leopard print and really makes it all pop! It was the perfect solution for my rug mishap! Now off to find a new home for the leopard rug!
