I'm so excited to FINALLY bring you my new deck with it's focal point, the stenciled rug!
I'm sure you have laid your eyes on the fun new trend of patterned, concrete tiles. Followed shortly by the DIY'ers who want to re-create this look for themselves! Enter paint, and a great stencil!
Two years ago, I redesigned our back deck and I placed a painted rug under the farmhouse table that my husband built. I did a very simple, wide stripe, using painters tape. It was a wonderful way to anchor the table and separate the eating area from the remainder of the deck. If you'd like to see the entire transformation, click here.
That space served us very well the last two summers with minimal wear and tear. I was very pleased with the outcome.
This year, I was making changes all around the outside of our home, adding more natural wood tones and I wanted the deck to reflect that. I apologize for my lack of photos, as I have been up to my eyeballs in projects!
I started by power washing the deck and railings. I then used Minwax Gel stain in Hickory to stain the railings. I wanted a contrast for the deck floor so I turned to my trusty, custom paint color I like to call, Stormy Gray. It's a beautifully dark charcoal color with a hint of navy blue! I had it made at my local Home Depot and they keep the color on my file, so I can have it mixed in any type of paint!
I used a stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils to achieve my patterned rug for under our table. I love the dimension it created, it really pops off the dark deck floor. I used the Augusta pattern in the large, 12" size. This is the second stencil I have used from Cutting Edge, (the first was in our Master Bedroom Closet Makeover) and they are amazing! Very simple and easy to use. The stencil comes with directions and supplies to make the job a breeze. You really can not go wrong!
We have since added some larger outdoor lounge chairs to the space and our deck has turned into my very favorite spot to unwind at the end of the day. The string lights just add the perfect warm, sparkle to the space each evening.
I would encourage you to check out Cutting Edge Stencils on Instagram to see all the amazing projects that can be accomplished! Please follow me on Instagram as well to see more photos of my outdoor space and other projects I am working on this summer!
