Formal Living Room Makeover

I recently completed one of my favorite furniture redesigns as part of my formal living room makeover, and I want to share it with you!

You may remember the two card catalog's I have currently in my house.  I use one to store books and dining room linens in my front living room...

And the other one was part of the Salvage Swagger series.  I repurposed this card catalog into an herb garden...

I love them both, but I have had my eye on one of those large, wooden ones for ages.  Sadly, my hearts desires and my budget do not match!  Happily, my brain had one of those "aha" moments and I had the great idea to turn my two into one!

As you can see from the other changes in the photo, the new card catalog lead to the "if you give a mouse a cookie" syndrome.  I "had" to make some other changes to the room once I brought this beautiful piece in!  Thankfully I have a rather large "staging" area of small pieces of furniture and accessories to pull from when I get the urge to change things up a bit!  I swapped out the tables, and removed the upholstered bench.  I really wanted to take advantage of the neutral tones brought in with the card catalog so I also reupholstered the sitting chairs.  See that cute little pillow with the antlers and the "G"?  It's super cute, and if you want one similar head over to Wendy's etsy shop, Peek Pillow Originals.  You'll love all of her Christmas designs!

I was able to do this for FREE using some painters drop cloths I had in my basement!  I also didn't sew these one bit.  My machine is currently broken (sad face) so I improvised with my staple gun and hot glue gun!  It's genuinely amazing what a glue gun can do!

My chair comes apart in two sections, and I simply wrapped the pieces like a gift and instead of using tape like you would with gift wrap, I used hot glue!  In particularly stubborn areas, I gave it a few shots with my staple gun!  The pleats were just folded by hand and hot glued as well!

I thought about stenciling a fun stripe or maybe a number on the back...but for now the pillows and throw are all the details it needs!

I'm sure you noticed the beautiful new art work resting pretty on top of the card catalog!  This beautiful piece was made with love and prayer by my new friend Hope!  She owns a shop called Signs of Hope AR, and I encourage you to head over there and see her amazing pieces!  I promise you won't be able to pick just one, and she makes custom prints!  These would make awesome gifts for Christmas, but you're also going to need to get one for yourself!

If you're super curious how I combined the two card catalogs into one, or if you're dying to see my crude reupholstering techniques, I will be posting separate tutorials for each.

Won't be long now and you'll be seeing this room all decked out for Christmas!  Yippie!
